Stick McGhee – Gary
Here’s one for you. This is not scientific or anything, just my opinion. The first Rock and Roll Song is considered to be “Rocket 88” by Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats circa 1951 by Sam Phillips at Sun Records in Memphis. Well old Fats Domino says there was music around long before that in New Orleans. So here is a Song by “Stick McGhee”, 1947 or 1948. He was the Brother of Brownie McGhee of the Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee fame. He also played with Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee because of his great Guitar work.
PS: I also own “Rock of Ages” the Rolling Stone History of Rock and Roll. One really interesting item, which was confirmed by the Course I took at George Brown College on Rock Music and taught by Roger Ashby. One of the great influences on Rock and Roll and other newer music was the advent of the “Sears & Roebuck” Catalogue, think about that one.
