Rock and Roll Movies Part 2

Gary: “Now, all of the movies I talk about, I own; yes I am a fan.  This next one is actually a two-part TV Movie produced by NBC that ran over two consecutive weeks.

There are all kinds of law suits that came out of this presentation.  The mini series was taken from Otis Williams who I guess was the originator of  ‘The Temptations’.  Regardless, it won awards and was nominated for many more.  It is a fun movie and well done, no matter what the law suits say.

Now this one may not be everyone’s favourite, but it is an Alan Parker film and is one mine.  I just love the humour and the music.  Alan Parker took a totally different approach to the film; rather than casting actors and teaching them about music, he cast musicians and taught them to act and the results were just fantastic – and for me, the way movies about music should be approached.

This next one is a little known movie from the year 2000.  Not the greatest movie, but the soundtrack was done by the great Kenny Vance and the Planotones and is a cute story.  It is a very enjoyable film, but will not get any Academy Awards.  If you look at it’s reviews, the critics were So-So towards it, but the audience loved it.

Now this one will shock you. I just love this movie.  It was made in 1976 and it’s star was a very unusual choice because it was the late David Carradine.

The film was nominated for 5 Academy Awards, Won 2 and won many other awards.  I do love all kinds of Music and I really enjoy Woody Guthrie.
