Big Joe Turner Blues

This post has been revised. Please see: Big Joe Turner

Alan Freed was credited with using the phrase “Rock and Roll” in 1951.  Listen to the Big Joe Turner song Rock the Joint recorded in 1947 and you will see where the phrase comes from…

Big Joe Turner

I loved Big Joe Turner, but some of his music is difficult to find.  I would love to have seen him in his prime, but I wasn’t black so I would not have been allowed in those clubs.

  1. Hi Gary
I wasn’t black back in those days either (still aren’t 😉 but I used to love shuffling off to Buffalo to see some of the jazz, blues and R&B groups in the local bars. I even took my sax down there one time and they asked me to sit in – wow, what a thrill that was.
